ATO warns on scam

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) warns on a scam email offering recipients discounts on their taxes and asking for details of their credit cards.

The scam email is similar to three previous frauds and uses the logo of the ATO. It has and attachment linking to a false website, similar to the ATO website, asking for credit card details and personal details.

The ATO reiterates that these emails as well as the website are in no way related to the Taxation Office and they should be deleted immediately. It wants to assure the public that the ATO would never send an email requesting personal details. The Office also advises that anybody who has already provided information to this scam should contact his or her credit card provider.
